The right time to teach your kids about being safe is as soon as you can. Making your children aware of dangers in order to keep them safe is the act of a responsible parent. Prepare them  now so that they will be as able to protect themselves as you can make them. Think how you would feel if your child were to avoid being abducted or molested as a result of this training. Then try to imagine how you would feel if they were to become missing, imagine life without them, not being able to hug them, not being able to love them. Take the time to educate them and give yourself and them the best chance to avoid the unthinkable.

Remember, there are tens of thousands of potential molestors and abductors looking for an easy chance. In order to avoid them, your child needs to be aware of what to look for and what to do if approached. Knowledge is power, and in this case it is critical.

Obviously, this is not an easy subject to talk to your child about. You need to prepare yourself with the proper information and make sure your children understand completely. You should periodically go over the rules with them so that you can be sure they know them by heart. This is time and effort well spent, it could be one of the most important things you do with your kids.
